August 12, 2023
August 12th was a scorcher of a day for racing in the beautiful hills of North Georgia at Atlanta Motorsports Park. Steve Newbold here for Liberty Racing Review, delivering your race recaps from Atlanta Motorsports Park. We at LRR would like to to start our race day recap by thanking the wonderful team that makes all of the racing possible at AMP. Below, we have added just a few shots from the track team.

We change up the schedule a little bit for this August race day with the Downforce division taking the field first. The grid for the Downforce division was rather large, with thirteen cars taking the green flag. Jack Rambo (26) would lead the field to green followed by “Mr. Sandman” himself, Shane Anderson (02). Again, the main storyline would be the unstoppable Raiden Nicol (93). Nicol would take his Radical racecar from 10th to the lead within a full lap around the 16-turn, 2-mile road course.
Halfway through the race, Elliott Alexander (999) cut down a right rear and skillfully brought his car back to the pits. Raiden Nicol would continue his dominance on the season by beating out Jack Rambo for yet another win this season. The final from Downforce; P1 Raiden Nicol, P2 Jack Rambo, and P3 Chris Hunn (53).

The final division to take the green flag was the always exciting Spec Miata class. Aaron Smith (083) would lead the 9-car field to green. Blake Fabiani (67) would take a very early lead, while Keith Williamson (64) and Tyler Klein (73) had a intense battle for second. On lap 8, Williamson tried to overtake Klein, but Klein would not have it and slammed the door on Williamson. This battle would climax on the final lap when Klein attempted an overtake in turn 13, getting loose and losing a slight edge. The overall final from Spec Miata; P1 Aaron Smith (SRFF), P2 Blake Fabiani (SM), and P3 Keith Williamson (SM).

We at LRR would like to thank the wonderful people at Atlanta Motorsports Park. The hospitality and the overall experience is beyond superb. If you or your friends want to come out to the beautiful facilities, please visit http://www.AtlantaMotorsportsPark.com for reservations for the kart track, as well as information about how you can get on the big track.

Slight correction…Aaron Smith was in a Spec Racer Ford and not part of Spec Miata class, which changes the podium. Still a very exciting race at a great track!!
