Huntsville Quarter Midget Association Obtains Lease for 2026 Season

November 5, 2025

Huntsville, AL — The Huntsville Quarter Midget Association (HQMA) has good news for its racers and followers in North Alabama and beyond, as the track’s lease has been approved for the 2026 season.

News first broke earlier this summer that the HQMA faced potential closure, with the Madison County Commission initially choosing to not renew the track’s lease following the 2025 season. However, things have since changed.

Liberty Racing Review has been informed by the HQMA that the Madison County Commission has approved the lease for 2026, with Phil Riddick bringing the motion to the County Commission for a vote. Riddick serves as the District 5 Commissioner, and was also the individual that first informed the HQMA that their lease was set to expire at the end of 2025.

At the time, Riddick’s reasoning for the move was that the established lease price wasn’t deemed to be at market value. Negotiations between Riddick and the HQMA since then have proven to be fruitful, with the Quarter Midget racing facility now set to hold a regular schedule of events once again.

The lease is set to last for one year, but will renew annually, according to the HQMA.

“While the cost of our lease will increase in 2026, we are grateful to continue racing at our current location,” said HQMA President, Robert “Rooster” Killian. “Securing the track allows us to keep growing youth racing in Madison County. We’re proud to move forward and thankful for the support that made it possible.”

“This marks a major step forward for our racing community,” said Dixie Shootout Series President, Heather McFarland. “I’ve worked closely with Commissioner Phil Riddick throughout the process and truly appreciate his support and willingness to help move this forward to Chairman Mac McCutcheon and the full Commission for approval. Their partnership ensures HQMA can continue providing a facility for youth racing in North Alabama.”

The news comes as a huge moment of relief for families who participate at clubs like the HQMA and others across the country. One such family member is Alex Dilworth, whose son Brody races at the HQMA.

“We’re so grateful to have reached an agreement. This means more than just paperwork,” said Dilworth. “It’s a peace of mind for our families, a chance for our kids to keep chasing dreams, and a commitment to continuing to grow the sport we love right here at our home track.

“This agreement represents teamwork, dedication, and a shared belief in the future of our club and community.”
