Nashville, TN — A series of late-race incidents allowed New England native Anthony Bello to score his first ever win at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
Bello made the decisive pass for the lead on the final lap, cruising past Hunter Wright to do so. The pass came on the second green-white-checkered restart of the night.
“I knew we were better than the 29 (of Hunter Wright) and he’s probably one of the best here, if not the best,” said Bello. “I’ve only got one race here under my belt, so I took everything I learned from that and put it into tonight.”
The triumph was a deservedly emotional one for Bello, who has only recently partnered with Fetcho Motorsports to pilot their Pro Late Model on a part-time basis.
“I haven’t won anything in about three years. This win especially goes out to Scott Fetcho. This guy has been beaten around the last year, and I just really wanted to get this win for him.”
The series of events which led to the dual green-white-checkered finishes was started when leaders Aidan Potter and Jackson Boone made contact with two laps remaining.
Potter, who had been the dominant car of the night, made contact with Boone’s front bumper, sending Potter’s car across the nose and resulting in damage to both cars.
While Potter came to the pits for repairs, Boone stayed on track despite the damage. On the ensuing restart, a multi-car incident further back in the field halted the race’s momentum once again.
This time, it would be Hunter Wright and Anthony Bello on the front row after Boone fell back on the previous attempt. Bello stayed in hot pursuit of Wright, eventually making the race-winning pass in Turns 1 and 2 on the final lap.
Behind Bello, Wright would settle for second with Davey Coble rounding out the podium in third. Aidan Potter rebounded from his earlier incident to secure fourth place, with Michael Bolden finishing in fifth.
