Nashville, TN — Saturday night’s Bass Tire Pro Late Model 100 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway saw the much anticipated return of Franklin, Tn. native and longtime local racer, Jackson Boone.
“It’s been a whirlwind these last few days,” said Boone to Liberty Racing Review. “My mindset for the night is to not set any expectations, but to go into the race and put together a good run and come out with solid showing to bring some good fortune to this FHR team.”
Boone, the 2019 Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway track champion, climbed back behind the wheel of his FatHead Racing no. 7 machine as if he had never left. He remained steady with top-5 practice speeds throughout the weekend and ultimately posted the second fastest qualifying time. After the redraw, Boone rolled off from fourth position.
When the green flag dropped, Boone quickly jumped to third place and steadily held that position, conserving his equipment for the long run. By the time the field saw the Lap 50 competition caution, the no. 7 had made his way into the runner-up position. It was at this point that Boone was prepared to take his shot at the victory.
After the restart, Boone began chasing the tail of the no. 68 machine of Aidan Potter. What seemed to be a Sunday drive for Boone quickly turned into a tense battle when he began closing in on the Fetcho Motorsports driver.
Lap 98 saw a series of unfortunate events unfold. Boone took a bold veteran move to the outside of Potter coming out of Turn 2 when both cars made contact. The racing incident resulted in a spin for Potter and heavy damage to the front end of Boone’s car.
With only two laps remaining when the caution was cleared, Boone elected to stay on track and restart from the lead, but he quickly faded due to the sustained front end damage.
After another series of cautions, Boone prevailed back through the carnage to bring his no. 7 Jamie Yelton-FHR machine home in the 6th position.
While it wasn’t necessarily the race Boone was hoping for, it was his conservative performance and veteran driving that put him the position to have a shot to become victorious in the first place, proving once again that he is a force to be reckoned with at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
