Michael Atwell Scores Dominant Rattler 250 Win

March 16, 2025

Kinston, AL — This year’s Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway was, to put it bluntly, a masterclass in dominance, with polesitter Michael Atwell having essentially no opposition on his way to victory.

Taking the green flag in front of the field alongside Stephen Nasse, Atwell would only face minuscule challenges on restarts.

It was a race of attrition, with multiple contenders falling out of the running. Bubba Pollard, Casey Roderick, Jake Finch, and Michael Hinde fell out of the race among others at varying stages.

When it was all said and done, however, it was Michael Atwell who stayed in control of the race, despite the theatrics and carnage throughout the rest of the field.

Colin Allman continued his good weekend with a second place finish in the Rattler 250. Stephen Nasse also continued his streak of podiums this weekend, finishing in third place.

For Atwell, this win marks the start of a season in which he hopes to hunt down and secure a UARA National Super Late Model title.

“Every change we made was positive. Went out there and ran a good lap in qualifying. Focusing on the race one lap at a time, we pitted there and had some issues. Drug the clutch bleeder off, so we had to get that plugged and re-bleeded, but once we got back out it was just business.”

“[The UARA National title] has been the goal from the start,” said Atwell. “Good way to start it, high paying race. If we just keep the momentum rolling and keep doing our jobs, I think we have a good shot at it.”

Colin Allman’s impressive weekend rewarded him with another strong run, which has been a long time coming for him and his small, family-owned operation.

“For what we have and what we do, no full time guys, for us to come out here and finish second in one of the most prestigious races in the country is huge. We’re proud of it but obviously you want to win.”

“It’s tough to look at what I’m racing against. This shows that a small budget team can come out here and compete with big money guys, guys with unlimited funds. We don’t have that. I mean, this chassis is almost 20 years old, almost old enough to drink,” chuckled Allman.

For Stephen Nasse, the solid overall weekend performance serves as a building block, as he shifts focus to next weekend’s ASA STARS National Tour race at Five Flags Speedway, a track where Nasse is no stranger to winning.

“We’re pretty much already ready for [Five Flags]. Got the car in the trailer, and we had talked about just going right over there, but now we’re talking about maybe taking it back and working on it for a day or two. We’ll be there and hopefully we’ll be good.”
