Kinston, AL — While the Ronnie Sanders Racing stable is always fast and a threat to win, some theatrics throughout the field helped to ensure that Jake Finch would go back-to-back and score a second Baby Rattler 125 win.
Finch, the 2024 winner of the event, had the car to beat earlier in the day at South Alabama Speedway. Leading the field in practice and qualifying, Finch started the Baby Rattler up front but eventually fell back over the course of several restarts.
The race lead changed hands on a few different occasions, with Jett Noland and Casey Roderick taking their turns commanding the field. It was Casey Roderick’s stint up front that not only ended up in disaster for Roderick, but gave Finch the opportunity he needed to lock in the victory.
While leading in the closing laps, Roderick was spun when Jett Noland made contact with Roderick’s no. 62 machine. Race control sent both drivers to the back, handing the lead to Jake Finch with only a handful of laps remaining.
Finch would go on to secure the victory with little opposition. Stephen Nasse worked his way up to a second place finish after suffering contact in an earlier incident, and Colin Allman rounded out the podium in third.
For Finch, this win is just another addition to the trophy collection for him and the Ronnie Sanders Racing group.
“I felt like we had a good car. Obviously, when I was leading, the car felt better. I felt like I did a poor job on those restarts. Got behind the 8-ball a little bit and started trying things to make the car happy with me.”
“I was trying to coordinate whether I wanted to pass [Jett Noland] or let him do what he did, and obviously I made the right decision,” said Finch on the Noland/Roderick contact which put him back up front.
“I knew that previously in the race, [Noland and Roderick] were mad at each other, so I knew I could bide my time and just put myself in a good position.”
Finch looks to complete a weekend sweep with a victory in the UARA Rattler 250, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 15th. However, with heavy storms and threats of tornadoes across the state, schedules are subject to change.
