Cory Hall Picks Up Dominant Super Late Model World Series Win

February 9, 2025

New Smyrna Beach, FL — Sunday night’s Super Late Model feature at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing was a rather simple and speedy one, seeing Cory Hall lead from flag to flag and pick up the victory.

Not too bad for Hall’s second ever start in a Super Late Model.

Despite pole position being captured by William Sawalich, Hall started out front by virtue of the redraw. Nothing is straightforward in racing, but this was probably as close as to straightforward as a race could get.

Only one hiccup really affected things for Hall, that being an early caution for a Kasey Kleyn spin off the nose of Austin Nason. After that restart, Hall held off a multi-time World Series champion in Derek Griffith to do so.

Griffith had gotten to Hall’s bumper at one point, even pulling beside Hall’s machine, but quickly fell back. Behind Griffith, Cole Butcher rounded out the podium positions in third.

Gavan Boschele and Carson Brown rounded out the top five.

“I’m kinda in shock,” said Hall to FloRacing in victory lane. “I know we had a stout Hamke race car, but I didn’t expect this at all. It’s cool to come down here against the best, I mean we’re not supposed to be here. It’s cool to race against Derek and guys like us trying to make it happen.”

Second place finisher Derek Griffith is no stranger to New Smyrna Speedway, having visited victory lane on more than a few occasions. However, he had to settle for a runner-up result tonight.

“We were just tight. New car to us. We’re close, we’re so close. [Cory Hall] ran fast all night. I thought I was gonna get him there on that long run, but once I started playing defense on Cole [Butcher], I just couldn’t catch back up.”

Super Late Models will return to World Series action for ASA STARS National Tour practice on Monday, with the remainder of ASA STARS activity wrapping up on Tuesday.

The original fifth place finisher, William Sawalich, was disqualified for the second time this week. This time, it was for his crew jacking up his car immediately in post race technical inspection, a violation of the rules.
