Despite the love/hate relationship that Stephen Nasse has almost perpetually had with Snowball Derby week, this is one achievement that no one will be able to take away from him.
Stephen Nasse is officially a Derby Week winner with his triumph in the Snowflake 100 on Saturday.
Emerging from a 24th place starting position, Nasse took the lead shortly past the halfway point and faced nearly relentless charges from Matt Craig and Dylan Cappello until the closing stages.
Following the triumphant Nasse was the aforementioned Matt Craig, who finished second. Seth Christensen finished third.
“The car was just really good from the start,” said Nasse. “We got lucky with [Derek] Thorn and I think [Jake] Finch, they got in some kind of deal. I was real worried when we went three wide there for the lead but the car was just so good on the outside. You don’t get many cars that are like this, so it’s a real special moment and I’m gonna let it soak in.”
Unlike Stephen Nasse’s temporary victory in the 2019 Snowball Derby, his win in this year’s Snowflake 100 is official as he successfully passed post-race inspection.
Another big story from this rendition of the Snowball Derby was that several spins and pileups plagued the entire event, with the biggest crash coming with 39 to go.
The crash featured a hard hit for 2024 ASA STARS National Tour champion Casey Roderick. Roderick was out and able to walk following the impact.
