Nashville, TN — “It’s been a big topic. ‘Will Chase Johnson get the win tonight?’ ‘Will Chase Johnson do this?’ I’m just glad that storyline’s over.”
A long campaign of work and sacrifice for Mount Juliet’s Chase Johnson has finally culminated in a victory, coming in the 2024 All American 100 with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
Johnson, who started the race in fourth position after the redraw, summoned a late-race charge to work his way past Hunter Wright, who led the overwhelming majority of the race before being bested by Johnson.
“We both worked our way up to first and second. I was trying to keep pressure on [Wright], wear his stuff out,” said Johnson. “We had a bunch of restarts…several. One of them I cleared him going into three, he knocked me up pretty good coming off four. Fell back to fourth…worked my way up to second, with about ten to go I made the pass clean.”
“It’s been a big topic. ‘Will Chase Johnson get the win tonight?’ ‘Will Chase Johnson do this?’ I’m just glad that storyline’s over.”
Hunter Wright finished second despite being the dominant car most of the night.
“Not a bad night, just weren’t fast enough. Got a decent starting spot and raced to the front pretty quick, led for a while but wasn’t quite good enough at the end.”
CARS Tour Pro Late Model champion and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Kaden Honeycutt highlighted the rest of the top five, finishing fourth behind third place Jeremy Miller.
“Definitely had some speed in the no. 47 Bryson Lopez Racing machine. Just needed some short run man, honestly. Just wasn’t able to maintain the pace, they set a blistering pace, [Chase Johnson] was in a league of his own.”
“I wish it was 120 laps, I probably would’ve been fine. For our first time here and the second time with this car — this is a whole new race car that we’re trying to learn to maybe take to the Snowflake 100 — good speed. It’s hard running against these guys that run here every week, but it’s like this everywhere. Thats just the competition that we have.”
Ohio’s Albert Francis rounded out the top five.
“Definitely not what we wanted. We were looking for a little bit more. We had a couple tire problems, we fought that all race. Fought free all race but fought through it and came out with a top five so I guess it’s not too bad.”
Despite being caught up in a mid-race crash, Dawson Sutton’s 21st place finish secured him the 2024 Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway Pro Late Model championship.
Sutton will compete in the ASA STARS National Tour All American 400 later today and look to add to the weekend’s success.
