Three local divisions held their season finale races Saturday night at Montgomery Motor Speedway, with instances both on and off the track playing crucial roles in determining the champions.
At the end of the day, John Burns, Tre Huff, and Perry Patino were crowned as champions of the Outlaw, Street Stock, and Late Model Sportsman divisions respectively.
John Burns Claims Outlaw Championship After Scoring Mishap Originally Had Ryan Arms as the Champion
In one of the tightest points battles heading into the weekend, it was originally Cameron Henderson who started out as the championship leader for the Outlaw class.
Henderson led Tennessee’s Ryan Arms by a margin of just four points heading into the weekend. With each position counting for two points, Arms had to finish three spots ahead of Henderson to claim the title, which he did.
Arms finished in third and Henderson finished in sixth, with Arms being announced as the champion at the Outlaw feature’s conclusion.
However, the tower did not account for race winner John Burns, who came into the weekend eight points behind Henderson and four points behind Arms.
Officials announced later in the night that after accounting for Burns’s points, he was actually tied with Ryan Arms for the championship lead.
The tiebreaker?
Burns scored the victory in Saturday night’s feature, giving him the edge on Arms, who had not scored a win this year. Therefore, John Burns was officially crowned as the 2024 Outlaw champion at Montgomery.

Austin Evans Disqualification Gives Tre Huff the Street Stock Championship
It was a two-man race for the 2024 Street Stock title at Montgomery, with Austin Evans and Tre Huff being the drivers in contention.
Huff came into the weekend with a lead of just six points, meaning that Evans would have to just finish three spots ahead of Huff, as he would have the tiebreaker.
Evans was a winner of three features, while Huff had not won at all during the season.
Coincidentally, three positions ahead of Huff was the exact position in which Evans crossed the line, finishing in second while Huff scored a fifth place finish.
However, post-race technical inspection told a different story.
MMS officials told Liberty Racing Review that the transmission in the Evans car was deemed illegal, with individuals stating that it was the weight of the transmission that was in question.
With the disqualification, Tre Huff was deemed the 2024 Street Stock champion.

With that being said, technical inspection had no affect on the feature winner, with Charles Davis scoring the victory.

A second place run was more than enough for Patino, who claimed the 2024 Late Model Sportsman championship.
