Alabama State Championship: What You Need to Know

October 16, 2024

It all comes down to this. The 2024 Montgomery Motor Speedway season has nearly reached its conclusion, with the Alabama State Championship promising to crown not just one, but four separate champions.

Between the Show Me The Money Pro Late Models, Street Stocks, Outlaws, Late Model Sportsmen, and the penultimate stop for the Modifieds of Mayhem tour, there’s a lot of racing action to unpack heading into this weekend.

Championship Standings

For the Show Me The Money Pro Late Models, Jake Finch has mathematically clinched the championship, sitting 64 points ahead of second place Gavin Graham. Finch has had a remarkable season in which he has failed to finish outside of the top five, also picking up one win back in May.

Show Me The Money Pro Late Model Standings (Top 5):

  1. Jake Finch – 276 pts.
  2. Gavin Graham – 212 pts.
  3. Zack Dixon – 200 pts.
  4. Clint King – 198 pts.
  5. John Bolen – 190 pts.

*Jeremy Williams is also tied for 5th place with John Bolen at 190 points as well.

There’s more on the line for Pro Late Model drivers this week than just a track championship, as the winner of the Rogers-Dabbs Pro Late Model Challenge will also be decided. The challenge, a series of Pro Late Model races across several tracks in the Deep South, comes to its conclusion this weekend in Montgomery. Jasper, Alabama’s John Bolen leads the way in the series standings by a margin of 26 points over Jim Wall.

Rogers-Dabbs Pro Late Model Challenge Standings (Top 5):

  1. John Bolen – 198 pts.
  2. Jim Wall – 172 pts.
  3. Jake Finch – 136 pts.
  4. George Phillips – 132 pts.
  5. Seth Christensen – 114 pts.

The Modifieds of Mayhem Tour returns to its home base in Montgomery as well, and while their championship will be decided during Snowball Derby weekend at Five Flags Speedway, their penultimate weekend will take place at the Alabama State Championship in the form of twin-35 lap features. Points leader Jeff Letson is enthralled in a tight battle with Jaxon Bishop, with LJ Grimm and Jeremy Williams not too far behind.

Modifieds of Mayhem Standings (Top 5):

  1. Jeff Letson – 236 pts.
  2. Jaxon Bishop – 232 pts.
  3. LJ Grimm – 216 pts.
  4. Jeremy Williams – 212 pts.
  5. Tim Moore – 164 pts.

While the Outlaw division at Montgomery is a short season with just three races, the points scenario is as tight as one could ask for heading into their championship event. Points leader Cameron Henderson comes off of one second place finish and one win to his credit in 2024. However, Tennessee’s Ryan Arms sits just four points behind with fellow Tennessean John Burns also in the championship hunt.

Outlaw Standings (Top 5):

  1. Cameron Henderson – 98 pts.
  2. Ryan Arms – 94 pts.
  3. John Burns – 90 pts.
  4. Presley Johnson – 86 pts.
  5. Wes Willis – 80 pts.

The Street Stock championship scenario is another tight one, with Tre Huff leading Austin Evans by a margin of six points. While Evans is a three-time winner in 2024, slightly more consistent podium finishes have enabled Huff to stay in contention.

Street Stock Standings (Top 5):

  1. Tre Huff – 270 pts.
  2. Austin Evans – 264 pts.
  3. Dawson Parker – 238 pts.
  4. Ryan Logan – 218 pts.
  5. Kara Wesenberg – 196 pts.

Finally, the Late Model Sportsman championship is another one that’s been essentially mathematically clinched, with the dominant Perry Patino sitting atop the standings by a margin of 44 points. Patino, winner of four straight races, looks to put a cap on his nearly perfect year by adding a 2024 championship to his name.

Late Model Sportsman Standings (Top 5):

  1. Perry Patino – 246 pts.
  2. Larry Hughes – 202 pts.
  3. Ryan Price – 144 pts.
  4. Chris Wagner – 136 pts.
  5. Bobby Reuse – 126 pts.
