53rd Winchester 400 Preview: What You Need to Know

October 9, 2024

Winchester, IN — The Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway is one of the Crown Jewels of the pavement short track racing world. The Indiana short track has had a prevalent presence in the history of ASA, and this weekend is no different as the ASA STARS National Tour will be the presiding sanctioning body for the 53rd Winchester 400.

The stars and cars of the Super Late Model series have had nearly a full season of action leading up to Winchester, with the race serving as the penultimate event for the tour. This race also serves as the 2024 finale for the co-sanctioning ASA/CRA Super Series, a regional branch of the proverbial ASA tree.

Entry List

ASA STARS National Tour points leader Casey Roderick has all but assured a championship in 2024, but still looks for a strong weekend in Indiana. Roderick sits atop the standings by a margin of 157 points over Canada’s Kyle Steckly.

The defending Winchester 400 winner, Gio Ruggiero, is another highlight on this year’s entry list. Ruggiero returns in his no. 22 Wilson Motorsports machine looking to go back-to-back.

A two-time Winchester 400 victor also highlights this year’s entries in Pinellas Park, Florida’s Stephen Nasse. Nasse won the race in 2019 and again in 2022.

A couple of current NASCAR names with footholds in short track racing also highlight the entry list, with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racers Ty Majeski and Jake Garcia having entered into the event. Majeski, despite being a juggernaut in midwestern short track racing to this day, surprisingly has yet to win a Winchester 400.
