“The Skipper” Skip Arp Wins the Asphalt Assault 50 at Anderson Motor Speedway

September 21, 2024

Friday night saw an interesting shakeup for the Coltman Farms Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series, as they traversed the asphalt surface of Anderson Motor Speedway in South Carolina.

Skip Arp won the Asphalt Assault 50 at Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night in spectacular fashion. Arp charged his no. 27A to the front of the pack and never looked back. Arp would lead all 50 laps to claim the victory.

Arp would qualify second behind the no. 8 of David Payne, who started on the pole with a fast time of 14.490. This pace would set the field for the 50 lap action-packed main event.

The main event would start to the roar of a sold out crowd at Anderson. The action would start early, as the no. 8 of Payne would fall back to second place within the first corner. Arp would slingshot his way to the lead by the time they reached the backstretch. Payne would battle hard to regain that position, coming within a panel length of retaking the lead on the lap 10.

Problems occurred with the no. 8 entering the third turn shortly thereafter. Payne went high and grazed the wall, breaking a tie rod and ending his night on lap 19. The field came back to the green with Arp and the no. 2 of Joey Coutler IV battling for the lead.

With fourteen to go, Coutler turned up the heat on Arp. Coutler put his left front clip right on Arp’s bumper, moving Arp ever so slightly. Both drivers continued the battle with Arp being the victor.

“I didn’t think the outside would be better, I figured [Payne] would have gotten the jump but I just talked to him and he said he spun the tires on the start,” said race winner Skip Arp.

“It was great to win tonight, I got to see so many of my friends from the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Georgia. Big shoutout to Joe for letting me drive this car and bring home the win.”
