Lavonia Speedway has a unique configuration and historic significance in Georgia’s dirt racing scene, and always serves up an exciting challenge for the drivers. The track, known for its tricky corners and fast straightaways, has seen countless memorable battles over the years. As the series returns, all eyes are on the top drivers who are engaged in a fierce points battle as the season inches closer to its finale.

Hampton, Georgia’s own Ashton Winger captured the victory in last year’s Hunt the Front event at Lavonia. Winger, known for his aggressive driving style and ability to excel on the slick, red clay surfaces common in Georgia, is currently third in the series standings. He has been a consistent presence at the front of the pack all season, and Lavonia represents a prime opportunity for him to climb the points ladder. Winger’s familiarity with Lavonia and his history of success here make him a strong contender to defend his title on Friday night.

Leading the points standings is Brandon Overton, a native of Evans, Georgia, who has been nothing short of dominant throughout the 2024 season. Overton, known as “The Big Sexy” in the dirt racing community, has become a household name in the world of dirt late model racing. His smooth, calculated approach behind the wheel has seen him claim multiple wins this season, and he will be looking to add another at Lavonia to solidify his points lead.

Hot on Overton’s heels is Sam Seawright from Fort Payne, Alabama, who currently sits second in points. Seawright has shown remarkable consistency throughout the year. He is often finding himself in the top five on race nights. Known for his patience and strategic racing style, Seawright will be looking to close the gap on Overton with a strong performance at Lavonia.

The momentum leading into Lavonia’s event is high, especially following the recent race at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Kentucky. On August 24th, the Hardgrove Memorial race saw Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tennessee, took home a $15,000 payday. Marlar’s performance was a reminder of the sheer talent present in the series, as he held off some of the sport’s top drivers for the prestigious win.
