Peyton Bridges Wins Round Seven of the LO206 Senior Division at Atlanta Motorsports Park

Saturday, August 27th

In just his first race at Atlanta Motorsports Park, Peyton Bridges took his battle-worn no. 52 Briggs and Stratton LO206 to AMP Victory Lane.

This was his first win of the AMP season and the Georgia Karting Championship, a split series between Barnesville and AMP.

Qualifying went smoothly for the first time race winner. Bridges would take his no. 52 kart to the top of the scoring tower, with his blistering fast time of 1:00.656 being a whole three tenths of a second faster than the rest of the field.

In the Pre-Final, Bridges placed second on the scoring tower. Bridges battled heavily with the no. 00 of Nicholas Lefferdo. Both drivers would survive the melee in the bottom of Turn 2 on the first lap. Lefferdo continued his drive to the front of the field, holding off Bridges to start on the pole for the final race.

As the green flag fell on the field of thirty LO206’s, Lefferdo led the charge down the hill into Turn 2. Bridges took advantage of the early side-by-side battles and jumped to an early lead entering Turn 4 on the first lap.

Bridges and Lefferdo would then have a two-kart break away. Both drivers exchanged shots at one another throughout the 10-lap feature event. Bridges remained on the point as the white flag fell on the field.

The final lap of the feature had everything you’d expect in a barn-burner kart race at the 0.85 mile track. Crossing the line to start the final lap, Lefferdo began his pursuit for the lead.

Lefferdo and Bridges bumped and pushed their way through the backstretch and into the toughest corners on track. Lefferdo would edge his no. 00 machine to the nose of the no. 52 of Bridges. This would not be enough for the Lefferdo, as he would ultimately cross the line behind Bridges.

LRR reporter Seth Benton was able to catch up with Bridges shortly after his victory.

Bridges stated, “It was a good one, definitely a hectic day. I knew about halfway through that feature it was gonna get real dicey, with passes coming few and far between.”

“I knew when I got that good run on [Lefferdo], if I could stay in front of him I’d be in good hands.”
