Kyle Steckly Claims First ASA Victory in 58th Redbud 400

July 20, 2024

A year after Canada’s Cole Butcher visited victory lane at Anderson Speedway, another Canadian is taking home the Redbud 400 trophy in 2024.

Ontario’s own Kyle Steckly took home the win in the 58th annual Redbud 400 with the ASA STARS National Tour, with this being his first win ever with the series. The win came after passing Austin Nason with 64 laps to go.

Nason would ultimately settle for second, with Gio Ruggiero rounding out the podium in third. Derek Kraus and Billy VanMeter scored fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.

Austin Nason won the opening stage of the Redbud 400, with Cole Butcher winning stage two.

Steckly simply had a car to beat all day, topping both practice sessions and qualifying in third.

“I’d never seen [Anderson Speedway] before yesterday,” said Steckly. “I knew this was gonna be a cool one, one for attrition and just being there at the end. I thought we’d have a chance but I wasn’t sure.”

Steckly also spoke on how strategy was a factor for the grueling 400-lap race.

“You just had to be really patient. It’s a tight little bullring where stuff can get beat up pretty quick. Only eight tires for the race, so really had to save. Played strategy well, my crew chief made a good call. We stayed [on a set of tires] til lap 280 and had fresh tires for the last 120.”

The ASA STARS National Tour returns to action at Owosso Speedway on August 17th for a new event to the ASA schedule, the Michigan 200.
