Boone & Graham Emerge Victorious in Gulf Coast Doubleheader

August 27, 2023

Jackson Boone would take home the victory at Five Flags Speedway on Friday, August 25th. His win came in an absolute barn burner, with several incidents occurring late in the race.

“We really needed this after Cordele last weekend. I really thought it was never going to end. If you would’ve told me with 11 laps left that I was going to win like that, I probably would have laughed at you.”

A barrage of late-race restarts saw Carson Brown and Dylan Fetcho challenge Boone for the lead, with Brown and Fetcho finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Carson Brown, who was making his debut with Anthony Campi Racing, passed Dylan Fetcho in the closing laps to secure 2nd position. Earlier in the race, Brown was involved in an incident involving Hunter Robbins, who was in contention for a podium spot as well. The incident ended the night for Robbins after hard contact with the outside wall.

3rd place finisher Dylan Fetcho would come out of the night as the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series points leader after Dawson Sutton, who previously led the points standings, was involved in an incident with teammate Gavan Boschele on lap 65.

Sutton announced on social media on Sunday morning that he had broken two bones in his wrist, but that he hopes to race in the final ATPLM Series race on September 23rd.

Graham Picks Up Win at Mobile, Brown Picks Up $2,000

Gavin Graham would win the Pro Late Model feature of the “Battle on the Bayou” at Mobile International Speedway in exciting fashion on Saturday, August 26th. The win came after intense late-race action between several cars.

“The two leaders started messing with each other, then I about got dumped [in turn 3]. Ended up saving it, and we ended up getting into the lead on a restart. We had a good run at Pensacola yesterday for what we had, and obviously we had a good run today ’cause we just got the win.”

Graham was involved in an incident where upon contact from Carson Brown, Graham slid through the infield grass in turn 3, but saved it upon sliding back up onto the track. Contact among the leaders was commonplace all night, with everyone getting their fair share of tire rubs and battle scars.

Jason Vail would make an impressive charge to secure 2nd place, with hometown hero Dustin Smith rounding out the podium in 3rd.

The Battle on the Bayou marked the end of the season at Mobile International Speedway, with plans being to start the 2024 season sometime in March.
