Atlanta Motorsports Park Kart Series Round 4

June 3rd, 2023

Zip up your suit, tighten your helmet strap, and get comfortable, because it’s race day at the Atlanta Motorsports Park Kart Track. LRR is proud to bring you the official race recap of the AMP Kart Racing Summer Series. Join us as we dive head first into an action-filled race day with all of your favorites, including something new, but old!

The first green flag drop of the day was for the L0206 Cadet and Jrs for the 15 lap main event. The first lap was eventful, due to a spin out between two competitors in the Jrs division that put a solid gap between them and the Cadet division. The top three battled throughout the entire 15 lap main event. This included some 3-4 wide battles between Alyssa Vascocu, Justin Sherbet, Lincoln Massey and Ian Patterson. These young drivers continued to prove that they are the future of motorsports with an amazing display of sportsmanship. The final results: P1- Lincoln Masey, P2- Camila Canache, P3 Justin Sherbert.

The second group to take the green was the Tag Masters and Sr divisions. Leonardo Oliveira pulled out to an early lead and would continue to lead. We had some second to last lap drama in the S’s portion of the track. 3 drivers tangled up directly in front of the leaders, shaking up the running order. The final results: P1-Leonardo Oliveria, P2- Harrison Browning, P3-Bhanu Yedla. Yedla benefited from the collision is the S’s and moved from P6 to P3 within a half lap.

All of the Open wheel action continued with our next division, Kid Kart. These young drivers constantly prove that they are the next face of motorsports. Riggins Barnicle (P1) dominated the division by holding off Barrett Turley (P2) and Carter Morard (P3). Hopefully we will see these drivers continue their journey in Motorsports.

Next on grid is my personal favorite, the LO206 Master division. Boy this race had everything you want in open-wheel kart racing. Al Edwards, Matt “The Cookie Man” Lassiter and Phillip Tidwell exchanged paint throughout the race with multiple lead changes. It all came down to two to go when Matt “The Cookie Man” Lassiter passed Al Edwards in the final corner to secure the lead. Edwards gave it one final charge in turn 9 trying to overtake Lassiter and ended up losing a position. Final from LO206 Master: P1-Matt Lassiter, P2-Phillip Tidwell and P3- Al Edwards

Up next was the Ka100 Master and Sr divisions. These air cooled racing machines are some of the fastest go-karts on the market and boy does it show at AMP. This race was a battle from the green flag with 4 to 5 wide racing. Spencer Mast held the lead until the final few laps after an incident in the S’s. As race announcer BIG RIG Will Rigdon stated, it was “Wack-a-Mole” with the leaders’ race. Final from Ka100 Master and Sr: P1- Jose Garcia, P2-Kellan Spears and P3- Christian Belvins Jr.

The battle continued in the LO206 Sr division. This field of 30 drivers came out throwing punches. The first lap was very eventful with 5 wide battles and a nasty red flag situation in turn 3 (all drivers involved were ok). The top four drivers created a train and pulled away from the rest of the field. Final from LO206 Senior: P1- Ryan Curtin, P2-Robert Davis and P3- Trip Rivers

We continue the AMP Kart racing race day with the KA100 Juniors. This field of 9 keep the racing very clean, with mostly straight line racing. Andrew Hammil dominated this race. Final from the KA100 Juniors: P1- Andrew Hammil, P2- Oliver Najbrt and P3- Adam Wein.

Remember the beginning of this article? I mentioned something new, but something old! Well I’m proud to announce a new division at AMP Kart Racing, that being Legend/ Vintage Karts. This division fielded a surprising 20 karts, a large amount for a division debut. With these karts you throw aerodynamics out the window, as they do not have body panels, and the driver is the most aerodynamic force on the kart. The racing is very similar to the LO206 division. Final from Vintage: P1- Billy Johnson Jr, P2-Tyson Swann and P3- Phillip Tidwell

To end our day at AMP kart racing we have the Shifter division. These are the fastest karts at AMP reaching speeds up to 100mph. The race was dominated by Daniel Perez, who pulled out to a very early lead and won the race by over half the track. Final from Shifter Karts: P1- Daniel Perez, P2-Jacob Hughes and P3- Grayson Butler.

The staff at LRR would like to thank Atlanta Motorsports Park for allowing us to continue coverage of race days and events. A special shout-out to Kenny Pearson Photography for all of the wonderful photos. Be sure to check out AMP on all of their social media platforms. We will be back at AMP in two weeks to cover the AMP Summer Car Series. Can Jose Garcia out battle Blakey Fabiani in the Spec Miata series? Can Downforce driver Radien Nichol continue to dominate the field? Tune in to find out on June 17th!
